October 2022 Health and Welfare technology webinar: Evidence standards for digital health and welfare technologies

Digitization in welfare, health and social care sectors is developing rapidly and the interest is constantly increasing as more people live longer, demand good health and better quality of life , yet there are big challenges related to economic resources and workforce.

Just as with medicines, it is important to provide evidence for the effects, benefits, and risks of these technologies from different perspectives. In the research conducted by the PRVIVE research group at MDU, it is demonstrated that although billions of SEK have been spent on procuring digital technologies, evidence has been required in only less than 1 out of 10 of all public procurements. Evidence-related requirements in Swedish public sector procurement of health and welfare technologies – a systematic review

Lack of national coordination and regulation in Sweden, implies more expensive procurement processes for municipalities, regions, and taxpayers. All this contributes to delayed implementation of technologies, increased stress for the staff and limited access to technologies that could improve health and quality of life for citizens, and thus missed opportunities for the societal at large.

In this webinar we will discuss the following:

I.  How are the evidence standards for digital health technologies (DHTs) established in the NICE framework?

II.  How can this framework help evaluators and decision makers in the health and care system to identify beneficial DHTs that are likely to offer benefits to users and to the health and care system?

III.  What are the potential implications for Sweden regarding evidence for implementation of digital health and welfare technologies in welfare, health and care systems?

The following speakers and panelists will help us answer these questions during the seminar:
